The "Ming" part of our name comes from the character "明 (míng)," a symbol of clarity and wisdom in the Chinese language.

The Role

Your Mission
Not only are there more than a billion Chinese speakers in the world (it's humanity's most widely spoken language by far), but China is also the world's second largest economic power, and one of the top global trading partners. For these and other reasons, TutorMing seeks to make Chinese learning the most popular foreign language in America. That's where you will fit in. . .

Reporting to the Business Development Director, you will assume leadership of a team that currently includes two Lead / Sales Center Specialists. You will act as our main liaison with lead generation vendors, ensuring they are performing to expectations, solving problems and identifying ways to improve. You also will manage relationships with the Corporate Sales team, your key internal customer.

Your Role
Different vendors provide different levels of service, from simply turning cold calls into warm leads and passing them to us to driving the entire sales process through closing. We see them as an extension of our sales team. You will work with leaders in vendor organizations to ensure not only that they are doing their job, but also that they are tracking and reporting key metrics (such as the number of calls made, appointments set, deals closed, etc.). Quick question for you - click here

In addition, you will analyze the metrics to make sure the vendors are meeting obligations, or to identify trends and potential new tactics. If a vendor falls short on the metrics, you will reach out for an explanation, and then do the research necessary to validate the explanation. If a vendor associate has an issue, such as getting stuck on negotiating terms with a prospect, you will help resolve the issue.

You also will negotiate contracts with new vendors and renewals with existing ones. We'll look to you to protect our interests in these negotiations, such as ensuring there is a "bailout" clause if a vendor requires prepayment.

In collaboration with the Corporate Sales Manager, you will decide where the warm leads and/or appointments should go. Most will go to the internal team, but some may go to another vendor for closing.

More specifically, you will:
  • Devise, present and implement plans to ensure the effectiveness of lead generation programs and vendors
  • Devise, present and implement strategies to meet performance targets
  • Coach and train your team, helping them develop skills
  • Monitor performance to targets and provide constructive feedback accordingly
  • Manage vendors' expectations in line with company guidelines to ensure win-win relationships
  • Hire and train additional team members as the Leads / Salescenter program grows

Pictured: Unlike software or prerecorded Chinese lessons, TutorMing offers live Chinese Consultants who teach in real time. Consultants can analyze students' progress and provide detailed feedback to improve learning results.

What's in It for You

Ground-floor Opportunity
While we have vendors and processes in place, this is a blank-slate opportunity. You can share your expertise and strong ideas and see them come to fruition. You won't stay to the mold and maintain the status quo; instead, you'll build the mold, making it better. If you see challenge as opportunity and have the drive and desire to build something tremendous, this role could be your perfect fit.

Excellent Compensation
In addition to a competitive salary and commission incentive program, we offer a comprehensive benefits package.

Professional and Career Growth
Even with your call center background, you're bound to add to your skillset as you take on new and interesting challenges. Prove yourself and demonstrate your talent, and you can grow your career as we expand our U.S. footprint. From here you could move up in sales or into marketing, product management or another area. Your only limit is your own drive and desire.

Strong Funding as a Foundation for Success
Unlike most startups, our venture in the U.S. has the financial backing and support needed for success. We're not putting our hat in the ring in the American market for a few years to see if it works; we have a long-term strategy combined with the energy and drive to ensure we'll be here over the long haul. Don't just take our word for it, read the thoughts of a few of our investors:

Joe Tsai | Executive Vice Chairman of Alibaba Group

"Alibaba believes in supporting entrepreneurs with great vision" said Joe Tsai, Executive Vice Chairman of Alibaba Group." "Just like our founder Jack Ma, a teacher himself who made it a priority to educate our next generation, iTutorGroup redefines the experience of learning and has made education more accessible to more people. We are excited to partner with Dr. Yang and the iTutorGroup team to take their vision to the next level."

J.P. Gan | Managing Partner of Qiming

"iTutorGroup has experienced incredible growth since the last round of funding nearly two years ago. They are the online language learning leader across Asia, and their technology and platform are perfectly positioned to help them expand their lead and further scale, not just in Asia, but in the Americas as well. We look forward to our continued relationship with iTutorGroup, as they become the world's leading online education platform."

Technology-Based Learning
In today's world, learning should be innovative. Our online classroom features an integrated whiteboard, instant messaging, quality video and sound -- all the benefits of being in a physical classroom. Learners can leverage a laptop or a tablet, and our one-way webcam system allows learners to see their online Chinese tutor, without the tutor seeing them, providing a safe environment where one can feel confident trying the language. We also have plenty of innovative features to market, such as TutorGlass, pictured above.

Pictured: TutorGlass represents a significant step forward in learning technology. Co-developed by the TutorABC technical team in Silicon Valley, USA and Taipei, Taiwan, TutorGlass enables students to hear and see their consultant, including what the Consultant is demonstrating. Students can thereby have a live thematic learning experience, interacting with a consultant who is on the other side of the world.

Keys to Success

As you know, vendor relationship management is an ongoing give-and-take. Obviously we want you to promote our interests, but it's also important for you to build and maintain partnerships with these resources. This model is relatively new to us, and you should bring fresh, creative ideas for optimizing this channel.

There will be plenty of stimulating work to be done, and our environment is fast-paced. You'll need high energy, a strong work ethic and enthusiasm to meet your goals and responsibilities. We're pursuing aggressive growth, and you will help us reach our goals through your own aggressive approach and sense of urgency in meeting your goals. You also will need to be on top of the numbers; you'll provide input for strategic meetings and senior leaders may challenge you to support your conclusions and recommendations.

A nimble and entrepreneurial environment necessarily includes some ambiguity, but if you're the person we're looking for, you'll see that as an opportunity rather than a challenge. In fact, those who excel here are willing to challenge assumptions and take calculated risks. If you need a tight structure and an established team to thrive, this role is not for you. However, if you want to build strategy, this is a chance to stretch and deliver in a unique scenario.

In order to be an outstanding Manager, Outsourced Sales Center, you also will:
  • Build a team of best-in-class vendor relations professionals
  • Fit in well with our team and establish yourself as a valuable resource
  • Lead through influence and motivation rather than authority
  • Manage multiple activities and priorities effectively
  • Leverage your interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships across the organization as well as with external partners
